Photographing since 1974, Cathy has performed her own darkroom responsibilities, including printing, developing, artistic editing and composition. Working exclusively in the medium of black and white, her efforts have achieved technical elegance demonstrating a true quality un-touched by the onset of the digital age. From 2001 on, Cathy has illustrated her mastery in Sepia thereby enhancing the historical quality of the finished product. Each ultimate piece is a true work of art, sometimes taking 30 hours to complete.
These prints are unique, hand-prepared and timeless. Her photographs of forgotten scenes and now historical memories depict life on the Earth's most spectacular, aesthetic and sacred terrain. All photographs produced in her inventory are hand-processed in a darkroom, hand-spotted and sepia-toned by individual effort. Her images are produced in the traditional concept and not digitally captured or enhanced. Completed photos are burned, dodged and printed on fiber based paper, (now approaching extinction), that demonstrates, (since 1977), years of devotion to her craft. Any Cathy Shine photograph will be an appreciated piece of art and an addition to one's legacy collection.

114A morning rainfall left a puddle on the trail on the mall near the Eiffel tower. We stopped and I saw this reflection near the daisy wheel drain cover. I photographed the base of the tower and cropped out the top to make the tower complete. The air was cold and winter was approaching. No. 114
115When European trains cross their borders, the host country provides their own cabins. Passangers will transfer to the new trains, occassionally while only the Engine and engineers are substituted. We exited Italy on an antiquated train and entered Switzerland on a beautiful, state of the art Swiss caravan. The weather was cold, but the dining car, (our first stop) was like a 5 star restaurant. I remember the warmth. The food was superb. No. 115
116In 44 BC, on this stage, Caesar was assassinated and the history of the world changed. 2000 years later, we waited here, at the day's end for the last visitor's exit. The abstract structures, cloud formations and the clean air is what I remembered on this early Fall day. I recorded this scene and opened my recollection of my studies in World history. No. 116
117Having never visited Pisa, we were searching for the Leaning Tower, walked on this road and this image depicts our first view of the world's most famous engineering mistake. Built in 1173, this bell tower (Campanile) tilts to the south- east. After this photo was taken, Pisa closed the tower fearing it would topple. Reconstruction began shortly thereafter. No. 117
118An unusual view of New York's skyline from the West Side shows many shapes and designs. I like the lines and the sculpture in the foreground. No. 118
119Carved from Pavonazzetto marble and located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, This piece, a replica of the god Oceanus, was a 1st century manhole cover in a Roman "corso". All of Rome is one gigantic outdoor museum. Next to Paris, the Eternal City is the best walking town in Europe. The light, on the photo's left-hand side, made the picture. Never been to Rome? Visit this city and bathe in its historic culture. No. 119
120How often, during our lives, have we seen statues? Hundreds of years ago, this elaborate sculpture honored Pope Clemens,11. When in Rome, it seems that every corner houses a memorial. This image is filled with information. No. 120
121The Queen Pomare' Court in Polynesia actually nick-named Julien Viaud, who was born in Brittany, as Pierre' Loti. Loti landed in Tahiti in the late 1800's, and began drawing, painting and writing about the Island. His book, Loti's wedding was soon published thereafter. One wonders why a monument? Look at the faces of the children and the dog. Living on that Island would make me happy also. No. 121
122Mauna Kea is the home of a multitude of planetariums from all over the world. The thin, pure air results in easy access to the heavens. The shape of the structure on a desert mountain, above the clouds, sparks an interest. This was my first visit to the summit. No. 122
123Light, shapes and lines are important in photography. In a small boat harbor, ready for repairs, this vessel was undergoing preparation. l remember the clean, pure air quality of this country. lceland's winter light is perfect for the camera. No. 123
124There are many back streets in Florence, away from the bustling tourist areas. We crossed the River Arno, using the Amerigo Vespucci Bridge, to the quiet side of the city. I like this picture's composition and the patterns within. No. 124
125I have made an effort to document the Eiffel Tower from as many angles in and around Paris that I uncover. (This quest inspires reasons to return.) The clouds, the sky and the light are most important to me. Les Tuileries is a well visited park. Children sail miniature boats in the pond and enjoy an unusual view of the Landmark. No. 125
126The day was overcast, cool and the late Fall weather brought with it a blue-grey sky with muted light. I thought that this photo, with such an unusual frame of the left-over scattered leaves, was an interesting and unique illustration of one of this world's most recognizable structures. No. 126
127Hiking up this "Torre" was a thrill. The day was very warm and the summit marked the end of our assent. The shape of this ancient piece, the light and the design of this bell filled up the sky. After developing the film, l appreciated the contrast. No. 127
128From the Staten Island Ferry, the sun's reflection on the water caught my eye. New York City was warm that Spring day and the sky overcast. The light during this afternoon made the photo. No. 128
129The most famous skyline in the world. We exited from the ferry and the heat was unbelievable. This photo included many famous buildings. Initially, l believed this to not be a very exciting image, however, a camera has the ability to capture history. No. 129
130Ellis Island is a small speck in the New York harbor, yet it possesses the cradle of modern democracy. The only true "French Connection", this structure stands for freedom. The City skyline in the background, with the Twin Towers, the Battery and the Empire State buildings gives praise to the Lady. Ten years later, this photograph became history. No. 130
131Between the Iolani Palace and the Mission House Museum in downtown Honolulu, lies this oasis of green and serenity. On an overcast, misty morning, we walked to this historic area. My interest was piqued at the sight of singular plumeria flowers adorning the entrance. The light was gentle, the ground was sacred and the air was perfumed. No. 131
132On the 50th anniversary of this world-famous landmark, we spent the day watching the celebrants. The state of California and the City of San Francisco closed the bridge to vehicles and allowed only pedestrian traffic. A controversy over this event occurred some days after and is confirmed by this photo. The thousands of shoulder-to-shoulder visitors on the structure that day caused the south tower portion to flatten and buckle. No.132
133One day after the Loma Prieta earthquake, I toured the Marina-District devastation. This photo shows the fireman to be in the same contorted position as the subject building. When one documents an image, one attempts to make a photographic print into a subject of an interesting study. No. 133

135The Norte' Dame Cathedral lies on the very center of the spot where Paris was founded. This image was taken from a small boat on the River Sceine. No. 135
136On the Loire' River, one must drive off the usual path to visit this village. Amboise was created around the Chateau, above, and was the home of Leonardo da Vinci during the last 3 years of his life. The light and reflection in the water motivated this photograph. No. 136
137Near Caen, Northern France, lies this whimsical harbor and village. A simple little village embracing simple, satisfying lives. I photographed this waterway which I was told was an estuary of the Sceine. Honfluer was part of French Impressionist history. Monet' painted here. The lines, shapes and activity of this scene gives information. No. 137
138I love to capture scenes that disregard the conspicuous, yet illustrates information. Documentation in photography is key. Throughout Paris, the Eiffel Tower is a part of the universal landscape. For those of us who soak in the charm of Paris street-walking, the above image ambiguously depicts the obvious. No. 138
140What appeared to be very old grapevines molded into a window shade shows creativity for this cottage owner. The lines of the trees, the bricks, the shade, and the window illustrate interesting detail. The day was overcast, yet moments before I snapped the shutter, the sun peaked through the clouds and gifted the scene with soft light. No. 140
141Walking through a darkened structure provided an interesting view of the world's most famous museum. The people in the foreground, the lines, the dark frame and the shape of the Louvre' are complimentary in this image. No. 141
142In the heart of the world's most famous wine growing region, a number of small tidy, simple cottages provide some locals a sweet lifestyle. I recorded the image of this home and thought to myself, "if I wished for a window, this would be the one I want". No. 142
143Above the buildings one can see shapes of both structures and the shadows they create. This village of Amboise, on the Loire' River, is another example of the beauty of France. The light is muted. No. 143
144An unexpected tropical storm forced the hotel staff to remove the cushions from these lounges. The photo displays unique designs. No. 144
165We were standing above the bank and I noticed this lone couple strolling along the shores of the most beautiful city on earth. The background, the light, the mood, the shapes, the architecture are all important. However, what is important here, are two people together, on early evening walk in the City of Love. No. 165
166Old Mill Park is located in a grove of super-sized California Redwoods and a piece of Mill Valley history. The structure in this photo was built in 1836 and was the home of the original lumber business in Marin County. Just down the road from my home, this park is the subject of many of my photographs. The late spring rains and the scent and sound of the water is in my memory. No.166
90Our friend in the Secret Service was stationed in Rome posing as a buyer of counterfeit money. On our second visit to ltaly, he gave us a intense tour of the Eternal City. We met very many students on these steps. A nearby tratoria was our next stop, No. 090
202After the wall was dismantled, freedom and capitalism, assumed an embryonic status. Each wall-section was removed and crushed into mini art pieces. For many years after, these pieces were marketed as souvenirs. No. 202
206People express themselves in many ways. At certain times, art becomes an example of protest. The wall is down. People are free. No. 206
109When traveling, my husband and I spend little time in one area. A night or two, then we're on the road. Short visits educate us about an entire country and provide many photographic opportunities. This home was lovely. The yard was neat and organized. Photography allows one to appreciate detail. No. 109
99The small vegetable stand, in the shadow of the Tower, is similar to the many stands that adorn the streets in Paris. All around the City, roads and avenues frame the Eiffel Tower. This image focuses on the people and the activity. No. 099
