Photographing since 1974, Cathy has performed her own darkroom responsibilities, including printing, developing, artistic editing and composition. Working exclusively in the medium of black and white, her efforts have achieved technical elegance demonstrating a true quality un-touched by the onset of the digital age. From 2001 on, Cathy has illustrated her mastery in Sepia thereby enhancing the historical quality of the finished product. Each ultimate piece is a true work of art, sometimes taking 30 hours to complete.
These prints are unique, hand-prepared and timeless. Her photographs of forgotten scenes and now historical memories depict life on the Earth's most spectacular, aesthetic and sacred terrain. All photographs produced in her inventory are hand-processed in a darkroom, hand-spotted and sepia-toned by individual effort. Her images are produced in the traditional concept and not digitally captured or enhanced. Completed photos are burned, dodged and printed on fiber based paper, (now approaching extinction), that demonstrates, (since 1977), years of devotion to her craft. Any Cathy Shine photograph will be an appreciated piece of art and an addition to one's legacy collection.

10Before Hurricanes' 'lwa and Iniki, Po'ipu was a dream to most travelers. This couple just emerged from the San Francisco flight and darted to the shore. This area, now, is over-populated, over-developed and devoid of its previous charm. Hawai'i has set aside this beach as a habitat for the Hawaiian Monk seals who call Po'ipu their home. No. 010
72Many years ago, the Kailua pier was the focal point of Hawaiian conversation. Fishing at this pier seldom occurs anymore. The angler who is about to cast, seemingly, has attached his hook in the distant Mokuaikaua Church, a landmark of this beautiful village. No. 072
73After arriving from Tahiti, we stopped in Kaua'i to meet my parents. On a Sunday, they invited us to brunch at a Plantation house located at an old sugar plantation. We drove back into a wonderfull estate-like setting. These little girls were preparing for a Hula demonstration. Ironically, 23 years later, our Hawaiian granddaughter Kaiao, now dances in the Ho'ika in the Merrie Monarch. No. 073
74The oldest horse race in the world takes place at Piazza del Campo in Siena. The Piazza is filled with imported dirt for the 1 minute race. Tradition and history overtakes this beautiful village. 2 days before the Palio, I was moved by what appeared to be a grandma and her grandson. The sun was setting at that time and Siena is magical. 75We walked through a pineapple farm years before Lana'i became a tourist mecca and met these ladies who made their living picking the tropical fruit. I was enamored by the look in their faces. All smiled, all had a story and all lived in a tranquil setting. Lana'i, once a pineapple capital, has eliminated the fruit to accommodate tourists. A pineapple takes 2 years from seedling to maturity. Too much time for a profit. No. 075
76At a curio shop in the Eternal City, this young boy seemed to be related to the owner. What struck me was the toy that attracted my attention wasn't at all related to Rome or Italy. It was the Star-Wars character that he placed in front of him while he was drawn to the look of my camera. He proudly produced that figurine from the rear of the store. Look at his sweet, cute expression. No. 076
77I was enamoured by this little Yankee fan, who could not keep his eyes off of "G.I. Joe". As his mother wheeled him past the figurene, his little head, trained on the object, strained as he looked back. The intensity in his eyes impressed me. He really, really liked that doll! No. 077
78On one of the many back street and allies that make Florence so magical, this young boy was fascinated over Santa Claus and made a sudden stop to view the most recognized figure in the world. His father warned him not to touch Santa which inspired the little one to stand back. I loved the way the dad looked at his son. No. 078
79My first of 3 visits to French Polynesia was a surprise from my husband for my birthday. Thinking I was flying to Los Angeles, I was shocked, at the airport, to discover that the LA trip was the first leg to Paradise. We visited Bora-Bora one week after Papeete'. Walking along this road in Vaitape', I asked this young man if I may take his photo. No. 079
80Christmas in Hawai'i is a celebration that hasn't changed in centuries. I was "back-stage" while some little girls were practicing for a Hula pageant. I love photographing children and this photo will attest to that fact. I photograph constantly and always look for something that interests me. Shortly after snapping this photo, I was asked to vacate the premise. 27 years later I discovered the reason behind my coerced exit. No. 080
81Our son, who lives in Hilo, surprised me with a ticket to the Merrie Monarch, a world known Hula competition that draws people from many countries. I nailed a first-row seat at Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium and point-blanked this photo before a performance. The true Hawaiian Hula is a sacred art of speaking with one's hands. No. 081
82On the Island of Hawai'i's southeastern shore lies a super-natural, spiritual, organic pool that mixes the warm ocean water with the thermal-heated fresh water that travels a subterranean serpentine route down from Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain (from sea floor to peak) on earth. Our granddaughter, Kaiao, who has spent many hours in water, warms herself with the gift from the Hawaiian god, Pele. No. 082
83These little girls, waiting to perform at a Christmas pageant, are prescious. Look at their faces. So serious, so young and wondering "who is this lady with a camera?". This photograph was quietly recorded in the space of a few seconds. It's all about the faces. No. 083
6The cleanest city we have ever visited is Luzern, Switzerland. Over many visits, my husband and I agree that if we ever live in Europe, Luzern is our choice. The man and the dog looks like they're related. Two old swiss friends who comfort each other. Both faces in this scene are serene. Real buddies! No. 006
167Rainstorms in Hilo are beautiful explosions. Cloudbursts come in buckets and minutes later, the warm Sun re-appears. ln Hawai'i, extremes are commonplace. This little girl was enjoying the downpour. No.167
155The view from this hotel window depicts Hawai'i. I have photographed many window views, yet, this is one of my favorites. l liked the textures of the scene and my husband in a state of relaxation. No. 155
84On a morning walk, in the cool early air, I visited this Fruit and Vegetable market. The proprietress and her customer were engaged in an exaggerated conversation when I decided to snap this photo. Knowing little about the language of Italian, I was unaware of their topic. The light and the scene inspired this piece. The bouquet' of the store was engaging. No. 084
85The weekly supply-ferry boat, bound from Huahin'e for Tahiti, awaits a small launch transporting a passenger from the shore. The passenger's family provides a South Pacific farewell. Fare' is the main village of Huahin'e and for some famillies, water is the only affordable method of transport. No. 085
86We were leaving Seattle, Washington after attending College Basketball's Final Four, when this scene and view reminded me of travel. People waiting, (and watching), in airports is fascinating. All of us looking at the plane and the action outside of the window. No. 086
87We were bicycling around the Island and I stopped to take this photo. This young man was studying the water but eager to meet his friends. Bora-Bora is the northern most populated island in the Society chain and its name is derived from the French phrase "first born". No. 087
88My husband and I have visited Paris many times. Why not? Paris is the most beautiful city on Earth. On a Fall afternoon, this couple tells the story of the City of Light. My husband called this photo...."French Kiss". No. 088
89Our first trip to Tahiti landed us in Papeete'. The morning, after our flight from Honolulu, we were introduced to the local transit system. l love the light, the clean bus and the little guy with the baseball cap. The busses in Tahiti were filled with reggae music. No. 089
90Our friend in the Secret Service was stationed in Rome posing as a buyer of counterfeit money. On our second visit to ltaly, he gave us a intense tour of the Eternal City. We met very many students on these steps. A nearby tratoria was our next stop, No. 090
91Watching children playing in the ocean makes me smile. The little girl and the water reflects the sun as if the photograph were taken with a strobe. A great example of natural light and the beauty it accents. The simplicity of this image, the texture of the sand and the form of the subject are captured. Life is fun. No. 091
92Our first trip to Moloka'i found us meeting this gentleman. His name was Mr.Yamashita, and he was holding his "Hawai'ian Angler" fishing pole while talking to my husband. This man was the most serene person I have ever met. He mentioned to us that he had never been off the Island. Look at his face. A very happy and peaceful man. Hawai'i does that to people. No. 092
93The building behind Tom Brokaw was a 3 story structure before the Loma Prieta earthquake. Two people lost their lives as a result of the pancaking. People are seen vacating the area. No. 093.
94We were walking all over Berlin. This photo captures the actual transit gate from West berlin to East berlin. The gate was dismantled shortly thereafter. No. 094
95A rainy day, a shopper and a documentation of a village in England. This photo is filled with information. No. 095
175We traveled from San Francisco through Perth, Alice Springs, then to Melbourne before settling in Sydney for the 2000 Summer Olympics. This plaza, next to Melbourne's Yara River, provides a crystal clear stage for children playing in the water. l appreciated the light, the buildings and the dancing water feature. No.175
15A walk down Waikiki Beach affords many opportunities for photography. One never knows what subjects will appear. This image illustrates what, for tourists, is Hawai'i. Diamond Head, Waikiki, High-rise hotels, an outrigger canoe and satisfied visitors assisting the guides with the beaching of the boat. No. 015
16During the day that Honolulu unveiled the Duke Kahanamoku statue, a group of men who , as young boys, were tutored by modern Hawaii's most famous ambassador, posed for the local newspaper. I squeezed in between the photo-journalists to capture the moment. Photography is history. All these men were important to Hawai'i and a link to the "Duke". No. 016
96On the footbridge connecting the Left Bank to the Right, these street musicians play for the passing crowd. A boat is passing by in the water. Another day in Paris. No. 096
97On the first day of our 3rd trip to Paris, we walked the streets as soon as we arrived. The man in the photo seems to be looking in the same direction as the arrow on the sign No. 097
98On the Ile St Louis, one discovers the Rue St Louis and its shops, restaurants, homes and people. A simple, self-contained community, the rue is a microcosm of French life. The merchant in this photo has woked in this building for over 50 years. This piece documents all that is France. No. 098
99The small vegetable stand, in the shadow of the Tower, is similar to the many stands that adorn the streets in Paris. All around the City, roads and avenues frame the Eiffel Tower. This image focuses on the people and the activity. No. 099

104On June 21st, the setting sun begins its trek to the south. At Kaunaoa Beach, at what is called Manta Rey point, 6 months after the Solstice, the muted orb traverses past the final point that eliminates the northern shadows for 6 months. ln the calm of the early evening surf, our granddaughter, Ashley ends her swim and looks at the sun. 105Marian and Vivian Brown, at the time of this photo, were strolling down the Embarcadero and took pleasure when posing for me. Over the years, these two ladies became a famous human landmark in the City. No. 105
106While attending the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics, a moving crowd of on-lookers piqued my interest. From its interior, I took this photo of two very young and soon-to-be very well known entertainers named "Prince" and "Rube" Paul. No. 106
